25 things I learned at 25

I turn 26 in six days. Here are a few things 25 taught me:

  1. God exists in community and He called us to do the same. (Gen. 1:26) It's not good for man to be alone. (Gen. 2:18; Ecc. 4:9-12)

  2. God is always speaking; we're not always listening. (Luke 8:4-15)

  3. Whatever you are, be a good one. (Col. 3:23)

  4. Let what you love be what you do!

  5. Do what you love every day!

  6. Make time for yourself! (Matt. 22: 37, 39) Self-care is important! Jesus instructed us to take care of ourselves in His word! ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’... ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ We so often shorten this to "Love God. Love people." Jesus never intended for us to be cut out of this equation. Cutting yourself out is a disservice to your well-being. You cannot love yourself without first loving the One who created you. You cannot love others without first loving YOURSELF. Love GOD. Love YOURSELF. Love PEOPLE.

  7. Treat yourself how you want others to treat you. (See 6.)

  8. Pray every day. (1 Thess. 5:17)

  9. With God all things are possible. (Luke 1:37)

  10. God's plans are better than mine. (Ecc. 3:1-8; 2 Peter 3:8)

  11. What you need is more important that what you want. (Phil. 4:19)

  12. Things could always be worse. (Phil. 4:11)

  13. Be grateful every single day! (Ps. 138;

  14. Forgive everyone...even yourself! (Matt. 18:21-22)

  15. Forgiveness is for you not for the other person. (see 15.)

  16. Your comfort zone is a prison locking you in, not a fortress keeping you safe.

  17. Don't let fear control you! Place your fear at the feet of Jesus! (1 Peter 5:7; 2 Tim. 1:7)

  18. Depression is real, but God is more real!

  19. I am forgiven and loved.

  20. God knows exactly who you need, and He will send them exactly when you need them.

  21. I am NEVER alone. (Matt. 28:20; Heb. 13:5)

  22. It's okay to be vulnerable. Saying what you feel does not make you weak, my dear, it makes you brave!

  23. Boundaries...because my peace is important!

  24. Saying NO is okay!

  25. GOD'S OPINION IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS! (Psalm 19:14)
